  • William Shakespeare – The Bard Of Avon

William Shakespeare – The Bard Of Avon

William Shakespeare (26 April 1564 – 23 April 1616) was an English playwright, poet and actor.

    I am a weakish speller

Hear me as I will speak

I was born to John and Mary in Warwickshire

And here you shall find me buried.

I wanted to be an actor and an actor I became

But I am known more as a playwright and that I shall remain

I wrote comedies and histories for the starters

Tragedies and sonnets for the main course and after

But it was romances which made to the dessert

Along with some collaborations with people who never saw a turret.

I was witty and I was clever

And I was a favourite of King James I forever.

I was not of an age, but for all time

Was what Ben Johnson wrote about me in his lines.

My name has been mentioned twice in the poem with some talent

To decode, or not to decode, that is the challenge.

    About William Shakespeare

    William Shakespeare
    William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare also know as “The Bard Of Avon” doubtlessly saw himself as merely another professional man of the theatre, who moved almost casually from play acting to play writing. And indeed he was very much a man of his time. He was a man of the Elizabethan theatre , who learned to exploit brilliantly the stagecraft, the acting, and the public taste of his day. Shakespeare has been praised for his “knowledge of the human heart”, for his superb poetry and for his esthetic cunning in his disposition of the action. He has also been praised for his theatrical skill, and for his ability to create living worlds of people. Unquestionably the greatest poetic dramatist of Europe, he was also Marlowe’s successor, the heir to a tradition of playwriting.

    William Shakespeare’s Works

    "<yoastmark

William Shakespeare’s earliest identifiable plays, his prentice work, show him interested in a variety of Elizabethan dramatic traditions. The three Henry VI  plays show him developing the chronicle play on English history which was already a popular variety of drama by the time he came on the scene.

The Comedy of Errors takes its plot from the Menaechmi of Plautus and exploits the comic possibilities of two pairs of indistinguishable twins. It complicates the intrigue by some of the devices standard in Roman comedy and untying the various knots with reasonable skill at the conclusion.

Richard III shows Shakespeare following Marlowe’s footsteps and building a tragedy around a central villain. The Taming of the Shrew shows him combining a certain amount of knock-about humor with a romantic love element. He combines it to distinguish “low romantic comedy” from the “high romantic comedy” of such plays as Twelfth Night.

    Plays by William Shakespeare

    Richard III
    Richard III by William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare at no period in his career wrote only one variety of play, so that any attempt to discuss his works chronologically cannot treat the plays in kindred groups, nor, conversely, can a discussion of the plays by types keep to a chronological line.

The Two Gentlemen of Verona is the first of a series of romantic comedies which includes Love’s Labour’s Lost, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado about Nothing, As You Like It, and Twelfth Night.

Parallel with his development of romantic comedy, Shakespeare was maturing his handling of the historical plays like Richard II, King John, Henry V, Henry IV Part I and Part II , etc.

He was also thinking about tragedies like Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, Macbeth, Antony and Cleopatra, etc. Shakespeare keeps on jumping from one genre to another and produced masterpieces in all genre.

    Elements In William Shakespeare’s Plays

The elements which Shakespeare uses effectively in later plays are :

    • heroine disguised as a boy,
    • a story of love and intrigue with a low subplot.
    • talkative clowns,
    • neat pairing of characters,
    • intermittent verbal fireworks, and
    • male friendship versus heterosexual love, are the elements.

    William Shakespeare’s Last Years

    Globe Theatre
    Globe Theatre

William Shakespeare spent the last seven years or so of his life at Stratford, in New Place, the large House he had bought there in 1597. After an active life as a man of the theatre, playwright, and man of property, he seems to have retired in some degree from the London theatrical world. His company, the King’s men, had now both the Globe as a “public” theatre and the “private” theatre of Blackfriars, in both of which Shakespeare’s last plays were acted.

In the last few years of his life Shakespeare appears to have written nothing at all. The reasons can only be conjectured. It may be that his imagination had transcended the limits of dramatic expression and he now felt that language was too weak an instrument.

In his later plays he used language with a poetic force and subtlety. Shakespeare’s poetic usage covers an enormous range. The later poetry, with its flexible rhythms, startling vocabulary, and syntactical audacity achieves a quality and depth of expression that seem to exhaust the utmost possibilities of language.

    Conclusion

William Shakespeare began his literary career as a poet. The poetic possibilities of image, conceit, metaphor and symbol never ceased to fascinate him. As for all truly great poets, language was for him not only expressive but cognitive and exploratory. For him, the nature of reality could be probed by the very fact of rendering it in poetic speech. He had the true objectivity of the artist and the supreme craftsmanship of the man of the theatre. Shakespeare had a humane curiosity about man and his nature and an extraordinary ability to conceive and create character. William Shakespeare also had an unrivaled mastery of the English language.

  • National Education Policy 2020: Reforms in Higher Education

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 focuses on key reforms in higher education that prepare the next generation to thrive and compete in the new digital age, says Dr. Indrajit Bhattacharya, Director, National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), Quality Council of India & Dr. Manish Kumar Jindal,CEO, National Accreditation Board for Education and Training, Quality Council of India to Elets News Network (ENN).

    Introduction

The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), launched on 29 July 2020, outlines the vision of India’s new education system. NEP 2020 focuses on five pillars: Affordability, Accessibility, Quality, Equity, and Accountability – to ensure continual learning. It has been crafted consistent with the needs of the citizens as a demand for knowledge in society and economy called for a need to acquire new skills on a regular basis. Thus, providing quality education and creating lifelong learning opportunities for all, leading to full and productive employment and decent work as enlisted in United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030, forms the thrust of NEP 2020. The new policy replaces the previous National Policy on Education, 1986 and forms a comprehensive framework to transform both elementary and higher education in India by 2040.

The NEP 2020 calls for key reforms in both school and higher education that prepare the next generation to thrive and compete in the new digital age. Thus, there is much emphasis upon multidisciplinarity, digital literacy, written communication, problem-solving, logical reasoning, and vocational exposure in the document.

    Higher Education in NEP 2020

The NEP 2020 was conceived to raise the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) from the current 26 percent to 50 percent by 2030 in the higher education space. It aims at building the overall personality of students by strengthening infrastructure for open and distance learning, online education and increasing the use of technology in education.

Moreover, the National Research Foundation (NRF) will be set up to boost research work in the country. A National Accreditation Council (NAC) envisaged as a single regulator for higher education institutions across the country will be established. The Higher Education Council of India (HECI) will have multiple verticals to fulfill various roles. Efforts will be undertaken to set up a National Recruitment Agency for all government recruitment exams, and a Common Eligibility Test (CET) for various recruitment exams of the same level.

Moreover, the courses and programmes in subjects, such as Indology, Indian languages, AYUSH systems of medicine, yoga, arts, music, history, culture, and modern India, internationally relevant curricula in the sciences, social sciences, and beyond, meaningful opportunities for social engagement, quality residential facilities and on-campus support, etc. will be fostered to attain this goal of global quality standards.

    Accreditation in Higher Education

Regulatory mechanisms of higher education would have “accreditation” conducted by an independent body amongst other key functions. Institutions will have the option to run Open Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes, provided they are accredited to do so, to enhance their offerings, improve access, increase GER, and provide opportunities for lifelong learning.

The accreditation scheme for improving credibility of Learning Service Provider (LSP) has been developed by National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET),Quality Council of India (QCI) under Department of Industrial Promotion and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India. Accreditation ensures Quality Assurance of Trainer/Faculty, Infrastructure; Program Design (Development and Delivery); Training Management System (3 Dimensions: Hardware, Software, Humanware / Skinware).

Education and Skilling in Cyber Security

As per the Global Risk Report 2021 of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2021, ‘Cyber Security Failure’ ranks 4th most critical threat to the world. As education and learning have already moved to cyberspace due to the ongoing pandemic, it has become utmost important to protect the privacy and security of each individual. Thus, as adoption of digitisation takes centre stage, it is extremely important to make our networks and cyberspace secure. In this current scenario, it becomes pertinent that capacity building for ‘Cyber Security Resilience’ is given prime importance and is included in higher education curriculum irrespective of stream of learning.

Research and Innovation in Higher Education

One of the key thrust areas of NEP 2020 is to encourage high R&D investments from government and private sectors. This will encourage innovation and innovative mindsets. To facilitate the same, there is a need for a strong industry commitment and close intervention with academia for industry led skilling / upskilling/ reskilling.

Further, it becomes pertinent to inculcate the skill sets for driving knowledge about “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” and its protection for delivering benefits from it.

The National Education Technology Forum (NETF)

The NETF envisaged to be established under NEP 2020 is a step in the right direction. The hosting of Quality Ed-Tech tools in all the dimensions of teaching-learning delivery would enable institutions of learning to adapt quickly. The emphasis needs to be towards hosting indigenous Ed-Tech tools on “open-source development platforms” with built-in cyber security resilience to ensure ‘privacy & security’ besides adherence to cyber security standards, adoption of firewalls and Intrusion Detection System (IDS) from external threats and vulnerabilities. This will secure the ‘personal privacy of individual students.’

  • Startup India – About, Seed Fund Scheme, Benefits, Eligibility

    1. Introduction

Startup India: It is no surprise that ever since Narender Modi was elected as the Prime Minister of India in May of 2014, he has been putting a lot of focus on making India one of the leading economies of the world. In doing that, Modi has made sure businesses of all types, kinds, and sizes are getting aid from the government. Small scale businesses in particular have received a lot of backing from the Indian government ever since Modi was appointed as the Prime Minister of India. From sole proprietors to budding entrepreneurs, everyone can get benefits from one or more of the schemes implemented by Modi.

One such scheme that aims to provide a lot of aid to entrepreneurs is the Startup India Scheme launched in 2016. This blog is gonna cover what Startup India Scheme is, who is it for, why you should do it, how to do it, and further steps that should be kept in mind.

    2. What is the Startup India Scheme?

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of the Startup India Scheme, one should first know what a startup is. A Startup basically is an entity that is in the initial stages of its business. The Indian Government has set the eligibility criteria in a bit more aggressive way though (we will cover that in the next section of this blog).

Now that you have a broad idea of what a startup is, let’s quickly define Startup India. Startup India Scheme was launched by the Indian Government to promote startups, generate employment opportunities for job seekers primarily the Indian youth, and the building of a strong ecosystem for entrepreneurship and innovation in India. Startup India Scheme can be thought of as a broad umbrella under which the Indian Government launched a lot of programs to achieve said objectives.

    3. Who is the Startup India Scheme for? (Eligibility Criteria)

Not every business entity can qualify as a startup under the Startup India Initiative. There are a certain set of criteria that any business should meet for it to be considered by the Indian Government:

    I. The business entity should be any of the following:
    a. Private Limited Company
    b. Limited Liability Partnership
    c. Registered Partnership Firm

II. Age – The age of the business can be no longer than 10 years (calculated from the year of its incorporation)

III. Turnover – Ever since the year of incorporation, the annual turnover of the business entity should not have exceeded INR 100 Crore.

IV. Business Activity – The core activities of the business should be towards innovation or improvement in existing products or processes.

    V. Capability – The business should be capable of generating employment and/or wealth creation

VI. Formation – The business entity should not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing a business already in existence

    4. Why should you go for Startup India Registration?

If your business qualifies for all the criteria mentioned above and you feel like you should go for it, there are some very good reasons that would back your decision:

    I. Startup India Seed Fund Scheme

The Govt. has set aside a corpus of Rs.945 Crores to invest in Startups at Seed Stage with a plan to invest in 3600 startups in a span of 4 years. Each startup can apply for government grants up to INR 20 Lakhs, or investments up to INR 1 Crore.

    II. Exemption from Income Tax:

Once the business is registered as a startup under this scheme, it can apply to pay income tax for 3 consecutive years out of the first 10 years since its incorporation.
Note: The above benefit is only applicable to startups registered on or after April 1, 2016, but before March 31, 2023.

    III. Exemption from Angel Tax:

Angel Investment is a popular source to raise funds when a business is still in its early days. Having said that, the businesses that opt for this form of raising funds do have to pay a hefty sum as tax to the Government. However, if a business is a registered startup in India, it is exempted from paying angel tax as long as the aggregate amount of paid-up share premium and share capital after the proposed issue of shares (if any), does not exceed INR 25 Crore.

    IV. Reduced IPR registration Fees:

A registered startup in India is entitled to an 80% rebate if/while applying for a Patent and a 50% rebate in case of Trademark applications.

    V. Self-Certification:

A registered startup will not have any inspection carried out in case of labor laws for a period of 5 years. On the other hand, with respect to environmental laws, for those startups which are practically non-polluting (white category), only random inspections will be carried out

    VI. Government Tender:

If an entity is a registered startup in India, it can apply for government tenders even if it does not fulfill the requirements in certain areas specified

    VII. Fund of Funds:

All startups registered under this scheme have access to Fund of Funds – a pooled investment fund that invests in other types of funds.

    VIII. Government e-Marketplace:

All government departments have access to Government e-Marketplace which is a platform where they can procure any service/product that they might need. The startups registered under this scheme have access to this platform enabling them to sell their products/services directly to these departments.

IX. In addition to all the above benefits of getting registered under the Startup India Scheme, there are also startup fests that are organized by the government that these startups can attend and network.

    5. What documents would you require to register your business under the Startup India Scheme?

    I. Registration Certificate or Certificate of Incorporation
II. MOA & AOA in case of a company, Partnership deed in case of LLP & Partnership Firm
III. List of all directors/members/partners along with their email ID and photograph
    IV. PAN Card
    V. URL Link of a website and social profile of the entity
VI. URL link of the social profile of directors/members/partners
VII. Information related to funds if the entity has had any investments
VIII. Information related to IPR in the name of the entity if it has registered any IPR or even if it is in the process of registering one
    IX. Business Plan/Pitch Deck
    X. Any information regarding any award, certificate, or recognition that the entity has received

    6. What are the steps to Register your startup under the Startup India Scheme?

    I. Incorporate your Business

This step goes without saying. Your business must be incorporated as an entity among Private Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnership, or Registered Partnership Firm.

II. Register your entity as a Startup

The next step in this process would be to register your business as a startup in India. This can be done very easily at the Startup India Website here. Follow along with the steps and enter the OTP when asked in the final step. Once you do that, your Startup India profile will be created.

    III. Get recognition from DPIIT

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) must give you, its recognition. You will not be able to avail any or all of the benefits stated in the previous section without this recognition. To get this recognition from DPIIT, visit this webpage and follow the steps. At the end of this process, a new tab will be opened consisting of a “Startup Recognition Form” which is proof that the process was completed successfully.

    IV. Recognition Application

The next step in this process will be to fill out the “Startup Recognition Form” that you get as soon as you finish the previous step.
Note: You will have to click on the plus (+) sign on the right side of the form to be able to enter each section.

    V. Documents for Registration

Keep in hand all the documents mentioned in the above (5th) section of this blog and upload them when prompted.

VI. Recognition Number and Certificate of Recognition

The next and final step in this process is to celebrate. You would get the Recognition Number immediately while the Certificate of Recognition will be issued 2 days from the completion of this process.

    7. Conclusion

To conclude, it is safe to say that if an entity checks all the pointers in the eligibility criteria, it should be registered as a startup under the Startup India Scheme. With little or nothing to lose, there are a lot of benefits a business will be eligible for with this registration. The Startup registration process can be a tedious one, and a risky one too if done incorrectly. In fact, if the wrong documents are uploaded, or even if the right documents are uploaded incorrectly, then a fine of 50% of the paid-up capital will be levied on the business with a minimum fine of INR 25,000.

Freelancing: What are the 4 fundamentals of this World? FAQs on Freelancing
