Income tax return deadline extended by CBDT
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extended the due dates till 15-March 2022 for all the taxpayers whose books of accounts who are required to be audited under any law like the companies Act, Societies Act, LLP Act, or Income tax act for the Assessment year or Financial year 2021-2022 on 11th January 2022. It is to be noted that the Income-tax return filing deadline is extended only in specific cases. The extension is only for corporates and entities that need to get their ITRs audited. However, the extension does not pertain to salaried individuals for whom the deadline was expired on December 31, 2021.
The deadlines have been extended on consideration of difficulties reported by the taxpayers and the other stakeholders due to rising cases of covid and some glitches in the electronic filing of various reports of the audits for the assessment year 2021-22 under section 119 of the Act.
The extension of dates had been announced by CBDT in the circular are as follows:
- The due date for submitting the Return of income for the Assessment Year 2021-2022 which was 31st October 2021 under sub-section(1) of section 139 of the act was extended to 30th November 2021 and then 15th February 2022 is now further extended to 15th March 2022.
- The due date for submitting the Return of income for the Assessment Year 2021-2022 which was 30th November 2021 under sub-section(1) of section 139 of the act was extended to 31st December 2021 and then 28th February 2022 is now further extended to 15th March 2022
- The due date for submitting of Report of Audit Tax under any provision of the Act for the previous year 2020-21 which was 31st October 2021 in the case of assesses referred in clause (aa) of explanation 2 to sub-section(1) of section 139 of the Act, is now further extended to 15th February 2022.
- The due date for submitting of Report of Audit under any provision of the Act for the previous year 2020-21 which was 30th September 2021 in the case of assesses refered in clause (a) of Explanation 2 to sub-section(1) of section 139 of the Act was extended to 31st October 2021 and then 15 January 2022 is now further extended to 15th February 2022
- The due date for submitting of Report from an accountant by persons entering into an international transaction or specified domestic transaction under section 92E of the act for the previous year 2020-21 which was earlier on 31st October 2021 extended to 30th November 2021 and then 30th November 2021 to 31st January 2022 is now further extended to 15th February 2022.
Do keep in mind that for individuals the date of filing income tax returns using ITR-1, ITR-2 and ITR-4 has expired on 31st December 2021.
